Do you know the old saying "Make sure you take time to stop and smell the roses"? Well today I did just that.
I love spending time in my garden, with new surprises popping up every time I look. Today was no exception with some beautiful roses coming into bloom.
I couldn't resist bringing some of these beautiful white blooms inside to enjoy alongside my gorgeous bee artwork from JSD Airbrushing.

A few weeks ago a friend reminded me of my love of dandelions. I had long had a vision in my mind for a photograph of a dandelion in front of the setting sun but never seemed to be in the right place at the right time.
A firm believer of the power of attraction, that afternoon as I went into my yard to water the veges, there
standing tall and proud was a dandelion, right on sunset, and my vision became a reality.
Dandelions have featured in many of my photos with my love of them extending to including one in my business logo which features a dandelion releasing parachute and seeds to the winds.
Today I got to thinking about this beautiful creation that most people, if they think of them at all before mowing over them, think of as weeds.
As I sat today and looked at the dandelion from weeks ago that I had brought inside and was sitting on my windowsill, it reminded me how beautiful and fragile life (and people) can be, while at the same time being strong and lasting.
What some p...

The past week has been a whirlwind of helping at Truly Tasmanian Craft Fair in Latrobe as well as the usual Sunday spent in the studio at Penguin Market. Being unwell on top of this has led to me having no energy at all to go and test my new camera out.
Today I decided to take some time sitting in the garden and enjoy the "little things". While listening to the birds in the trees and hoping they would come down and say hello, this little "hoverfly" (Syrphidae ~ also known as "flower flies") kept me entertained as it hovered from flower to flower.
Time spent recharging my batteries by soaking up sunshine and enjoying nature's delights was time well spent. And these moments captured are a nice reminder of a quiet morning spent enjoying my new camera.

It was such a pleasure to see this little ray of sunshine after a few years. It seems like time has stood still, as her beautiful smile still lights everyone around her.
Mackenzie loved spending time smelling the gorgeous Spring flowers down at the beach in Penguin.
A little hesitant at first of the bees buzzing in the flowers behind her, Mackenzie's interest was soon peaked and she loved seeing the pollen laden bees on the screen of my camera. Once she realised how gorgeous they look she was quick to point out new bees as they landed on the pretty white flowers.
The beach was the perfect backdrop for this little ray of sunshine.

These armoured little slater beetles have always fascinated me, but even more so since having an adventurous young son that loved to collect bugs & creepie crawlies.
I will never forget the Spring day about 8 years ago, when my son, playing in the garden lifting rocks (as he often did) came up to me in the garden and asked me to hold out my hand while he went to get a jar.
Assuming (yes first mistake) that he was handing me yet another slater beetle I was surprised by the size of the creature unfurling under my closed fingers.
Certainly made me jump to discover it was NOT a slater beetle but in fact a scorpion!!
No George did not need his jar, and yes scorpions land on their feet when thrown in the air!!
I'm always reminded of my son's curiosity when I watch these little fellas.

Visit the NW Coast of Tasmania in October and you will be treated to a stunning display of Tulips, especially in and around the town of Wynyard.
The town celebrates Spring with a Tulip Festival on the second weekend in October, and Tulip Farm at Table Cape offers up the most gorgeous array of blooms.

From August through to October Elysian Photography has been visiting individuals, businesses and groups along the NW Coast of Tasmania taking photos for the SAY NO Selfie Campaign.
Domestic Violence is sadly becoming ever more prevalent, with 1 in 5 woman, and 1 in 20 men experiencing domestic violence at the hands of the people who ‘love’ them.
The aim of the SAY NO Selfie Campaign is to raise much needed awareness and money to assist those affected by domestic violence, in our local communities, by publicly ‘SAYING NO’.
The money raised by this campaign will be used to create emergency packs for woman and children who have had to leave violent situations abruptly. These packs will be donated directly to the Ulverstone and Burnie Women’s Shelters.
The ‘Say NO’ Selfie Campaign will raise awareness by encouraging local businesses to display ‘Say NO’ photos throughout Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, and Burnie during the month of November. The photos were taken by Elysian Photography w...

Wow ... looking back on my first "portraits" to todays and it is like comparing apples & oranges. Both a photos of people, but I can honestly say that now during an Elysian photographic session I really do aim to capture photo's that portray real life, real emotions and real moments in time.
In getting to know the families I photograph, I have realised that I truly value the genuine, heartfelt moments of families as these are the chapters that make up the stroybook of memories that each family will treasure forever.
I want to be able to give my families photos of that capture the true essence of them ... not just photos that capture "the day the whole family wore white shirts and jeans". I want to take photos that tell the story of who YOU are.
I want a photographic session with Elysian to be all about the love and connections between the members of your family. To do this I will take time to get to know you and your family and discover the things that you truly love and valu...

So here I am ... so many changes over the past 12 months....
* new house
* new school for my son
* new GALLERY & STUDIO for Elysian Photography is open at the Penguin Market
~ a NEW LIFE CREATED!!
My journey to date has been full of steep mountains and flat open spaces, but with every day I open my eyes to the sun, is a new opportunity to forge even further ahead.
Elysian Photography has emerged from its very humble beginnings as Kim Ogden Photography ~ my skills improving and my own style emerging.
A year of taking as many sunrises and sunsets as I could capture has given me some photographs which are still amongst my favourites.
And sometimes the beauty of the sunset is not what we see in front of us, but is actually the reflection of what has happened behind when we weren't looking.
I was pondering today on where I am at the moment and feeling like I hadn't gotten very far, when I paused to look back on the journey behind me.... and it was then that I realised that although I may h...
